Like the rest of the country we’ve been following the World Cup. Watching the games, following various online feeds and talking to friends and family with whom we’ve been watching. The job which Gareth Southgate has done is quite remarkable. Managing the expectations of a demanding nation, whilst simultaneously creating a genuine sense of shared purpose amongst his squad. Only the very churlish would argue that England are on an upward trajectory so he deserves credit for that, although he is quick to insist everything has been achieved thus far in down to teamwork, people doing their jobs, accepting responsibility and ultimately believing in the shared common objective, well done – all of you, you have made us all very proud.
